“A White Heron” by Sarah Orne Jewett is an interesting short story that basically deals with Sylvia’s decision in revealing the heron’s nest and exposing it to a hunter. The character of Sylvia has been created very carefully as she is different from others. She prefers to avoid the company of humans and instead nature is very close to her. She feels most comfortable in the vicinity of the natural surroundings which make her know more about the White Heron and its nest in the forest. It was her love for the little birds that particularly grabbed the attention of many readers like me.
